Brüno, one of the worst films ever
I think you probably have to like this kind of film to begin with or be a bit of a fan the Borat or Ali G. I am definitely not so if you're looking for a glowing review of Brüno you won't find it here. Sacha Baron Cohen just doesn't do it for me. I like funny people and comedies but I guess you have to REALLY be into this kind of thing to enjoy it. Anyhoo....
I saw this movie a few weeks ago and have basically put off reviewing it hoping that I wouldn't have to. So briefly (because I've forgotten most of the experience). Brüno is a tale about one gay fashion guru from Austria who falls out with his German speaking audience and runs off to America to reclaim his fame. He then spends the next hour taking mickey out off, confusing and peeing off everyone he meets - not necessarily in that order. There are a lot of quite bizzare scenes and you're never quite sure whether or not the people are for real or of it's a set up.
Actually, the bit where he went hunting with the rednecks was quite amusing. They all looked so serious and you couldn't help but wonder how they held back from kicking the crap out of Brüno. Perhaps that's the essence of this film, laughing at dumb Americans. So who's not okay with that? The belt whipping bit was hillarious too.
As I said earlier, if you liked Borat then this is one for you. Throughout the film there's the usual silliness you'd expect and and a fair bit of nudity and talking body parts. OK, I'll admit that I did laugh out loud a few times during the film because some bits were quite funny. But it's a childish kind of funny.
By the way if you're easily offended or a bit straight laced then this film isn't for you. Personally this sort of thing doesn't offend me in any way, I just couldn't be bothered with most of it. It's not one of those movies I'll keep in my collection but everyone has their own taste I suppose.
