Chrome, Android, Google Search increase market share
I make it my business to check out market results and trends for browsers, search engines and operating systems once a month - usually on the 4th or 5th. I'm interested in this and I'd really like to see Google do well because I have a great deal of faith in their products. Well as far as I can tell October 2010 seems to have been a good month for all things Google! So go Google, go...
First of all Google Chrome has taken another huge bite out of the browser market share and currently stands at 8.5% (up from 7.98% in September). Internet Explorer which is the dominant player has suffered a loss for a third month in a row. Opera and Firefox also took a hit with Safari the only other major browser apart from Chrome to make a gain. Personally, I must admit to being a fan of Chrome and it's easy to see why it is growing in popularity.
Next up the search engine market share. Google appears to have had a quieter summer, still big player in search engine land but Bing appeared to be making some inroads into their market share. This appears to have been halted though and it has been in decline again the last few month with Google seeing a gain once more (currently at a whopping 85.15% globally).
Baidu appears to have suffered the most though and it's market share is currently down at 3.34% having lost 1.62% since September.
Android is another Google success story I have great deal of interest in. I currently own an Android phone and it sometimes feels like my left arm, I wouldn't be without it now. In the news recently since January alone Android has doubled its total share in the mobile operating system market. Quite an incredible feat by any stretch of imagination and by all accounts Blackberry maker RIM is one of the biggest losers. Predictions are that by next month Android's market share will reach or exceed iOS this month, which would also be quite incredible when you consider where Android was a year ago.
So all in all, as you can see it's must be a good month to be a Googler and long may it continue.
